About the production

-I hate the silence.

-I wonder where that hate will take us.

On a cold, dark night in Dublin City, Atly, Colin and John are locked in overnight cells under the watch of two somewhat eccentric guards. As the night drags on and time seems to stand still. They have a long journey to the bottom of the barrel, telling stories and clashing with each other to keep the crushing weight of boredom from setting in.

Written as part of Dublin Youth Theatre’s Writers’ Group 2020, Night in A Cell is a showcase of the work that youth theatre members undertake in DYT.  This piece is rehearsed and performed entirely over Zoom, adapted specifically to the challenges and possibilities of performing online. The actors are using their own homes as their performance spaces, transforming them into the world of the play.

Night in a Cell will be performed as part of Creative Ireland’s Cruinniú na nÓg programme on Saturday 12 June 2021 at 8pm. Tickets are free, but booking is required.
