About the production

As the summer winds down it’s time for DYT to recruit new members for the 2015/2016 academic year. Last year 120 young people auditioned for Ireland’s oldest Youth Theatre.

Established in 1977 by Paddy O’Dwyer, DYT has seen over a 1,000 young people pass through its doors including star of “The Wire” actor Aidan Gillen, TONY Award winner Enda Walsh, and Television Presenter Katheryn Thomas. An Open Day for those interested in joining DYT will take place on Saturday September 19th from 11am to 4pm, and auditions will take place the following week.

Each year an Open Day is held for prospective members to meet our current members and leaders and find out about the organisation. After the Open Day prospective members will be invited to attend a workshop audition of 15 – 20 young people in each audition. They’ll play some basic drama games/exercises and be asked to discuss why they’d like to join DYT. Auditions will be held the week after the open day in the evening and are group-based, no preparation needed!

Competition for a place at DYT is quite high and we try to balance boys and girls, from across the age range 14-22 from Dublin City and County. No experience is necessary! It’s more important that you have a great personality and are a good team player!

DYT is grant aided by The Arts Council, City of Dublin Youth Service Board and Dublin City Council, this enables us to keep membership contributions to just E100 per year, although members are expected to take part in fundraising activities.
