Davey Kelleher and the Board of Dublin Youth Theatre wish to announce that Davey is stepping down as Artistic Director after four years of dedicated leadership.
Joining the company in 2022, Davey steered DYT through its post-pandemic recovery, revitalising the organisation’s energy and overseeing a significant expansion of the artistic programme. His tenure saw the successful delivery of 28 plays and productions, and hundreds of creative collaborations, cross-disciplinary projects, artistic engagements and workshops, ensuring that DYT remained a vibrant, high-output home for young creators in the heart of Dublin.
Davey’s vision focused on connecting DYT members with the wider professional industry while broadening the technical and creative scope of the company’s work, overseeing high-scale productions, developing new work, including a special commission for the National Youth Council of Ireland’s 2024 National Conference, and a successful collaboration with Taking Flight: Aerial Education and Performance Company. Forging active cross disciplinary partnerships across the Irish theatre landscape, providing members with unique access to professional sets, stages, and artists.
The Board thanks him for his dedication to the social, personal and artistic development of the DYT members during his tenure and for his artistic vision.
‘Davey has brought his superb artistic stamp to the DYT programme and leaves the organisation secure in its place in Dublin’s theatre ecosystem. We wish to congratulate him on his successful tenure and wish him well’ – Naoise Nunn, Chair
Reflecting on his time with DYT, Davey Kelleher added:
“It has been an immense privilege to lead such a brilliant and anarchic community for part of its history. I am deeply grateful to my colleagues, the board, and the members of DYT, and incredibly proud of the work we’ve created together, from our most ambitious mainstage shows to our tiniest moments of magic, but I am especially proud of the personal growth I have witnessed in the young people in our membership. The future of Irish theatre is in safe hands with the members of DYT, and I look forward to seeing what they create next.”
The Board thanks Davey for his significant contribution and wishes him every success in his future projects.
