DYT alumni and board members (and housemates!) Deirdre and Roxanna are next in the hot seat(s) and kicking off the questions is our very own Artistic Director, Dave Kelly 😊 These two know a LOT about life in the theatre, so if you’ve got a question about being a female in the arts, doing the arts-job juggle, using social as a creative outlet or why DYT is such a brilliant training ground, now’s your chance to… ask the pro!

An ex-member of Dublin Youth Theatre and National Youth Theatre, Deirdre has directed and facilitated extensively in youth drama, most recently ‘Show Me Love’, DYT’s Big Show 2016. Members will also know her from being on The 24 Hour Plays team. Deirdre also directs and produces for THISISPOPBABY and many other independent companies and is currently working on a new show, WELCOME TO IRELAND – Meltdown of an Irish Tour Guide which was to be presented in May 2020, now re-programmed for Spring 2021. As an actor, she has performed throughout Ireland and the UK, most recently in one of The Abbey’s #DearIreland monologues. Watch it here. It’s ace. (Available from Sat May 2nd).

Roxanna is a poet, writer and actor from Dublin. She has performed her poetry at different festivals around the country including Doolin Folk Festival, Body and Soul, All Together Now and Electric Picnic. Her poem ‘The Bubble’ was recently made into a short film directed by Dave Tynan which she also starred in. She has performed with The Abbey Theatre, Druid, Brokentalkers, THEATREclub, AXIS Ballymun and the National Theatre in London. She is a trained drama facilitator and DYT alumnus. If you’re on social, check out Roxanna’s daily doses of craic, inspiration and poetry here and here.

ABOUT ASK THE PRO

DYT members – present and past – and friends are invited to join us, from the comfort of your own home, for a series of weekly Question & Answer sessions with experienced theatre professionals.

Each week, special guests (many of whom are ex-DYTers) will tell us a little bit about their journey, how they got to where they are, who and what inspired them, the challenges they faced to make it and what they’re up to these COVID days.

If you’ve got a question about theatre, being (or becoming) a theatre professional, now’s your chance to #askthepro.
